I believe that the bible is the true word of God and represents a codex for life and true faith. I believe that Jesus Christ died for the forgiveness of our sins through his blood sacrifice. I believe that Christ was buried and rose after 3 days, he ascended into heaven and sits on the right hand side of God.
I created this site to provide an outlet for my own thoughts, musings and research relating to Christianity. I always try to maintain an apolitical stance and consider myself an independent politically.
One of the most fascinating parts of the Bible for me is the first few chapters of Genesis, primarily the 6 days of creation. Since becoming a Christian, I have found myself moving between young and old earth theology. I have however come to the conclusion that on a faith level it really does not matter which we believe. Although when you hear those that profess one of these 2 views you would feel that your eternal soul is in gambling on this one question. A while back I made the mistake of mentioning my thoughts on this matter and was met with a deluge of 1 day, 24 hour comments. Unfortunately when I posed the question, why do you think that, the answers were less than convincing. This really comes to the heart of the matter and why we as Christians must care about such distinctions.
Carbon14 dating and Potassium Argon testing are both used extensively to age fossils and volcanic rock. Both of these methods are based on its decay rate (half-life), carbon 14 has a half-life of 5730 years, and Potassium to argon is 1.3billion years. Both dating methods make the same assumptions which are that the starting point is known and the decay rate is consistent. As an analogy, If you are presented with a burning candle, the candle is currently 7 inches high and after observation we can say that the candle is currently burning at a rate of 1 inch per hour. The question then that needs to be answered is how long has the candle been burning for before we observed it. Given the parameters we know, unless we know how big the candle was at the start we cannot estimate the time it has been burning, also even if we did know it’s original height, can we be certain that it is burning at a constant rate.
I am disgusted and sickened by the recent events in Newtown, whether you are like me and have children in elementary school or not you cannot help but be appalled by the actions of someone who can only be described as evil. In fact for me this was very close to home as my own twin boys are both in first grade and the horror of this happening to my children is impossible to comprehend. I feel deeply sorrowed for the parents who lost their babies. Not to belittle the loss of life suffered by the staff members who also lost their lives.
